Two elements affect internet performance — server latency, and bandwidth. What are they, and what are their differences?
The first difference between latency and bandwidth is the basic definition.
According to the narrator in the above video, latency is the distance and amount of time it takes to move from point A to point B. Basically, this is the time it takes data to reach its destination in a network. On the other hand, bandwidth is the volume of data that can be transferred over a network.
The second difference between latency and bandwidth is how they’re measured. Since latency involves time, it’s measured in MS (milliseconds). On the other hand, since bandwidth involves data, it’s measured in Kbps, Mbps, or Gbps.
The third difference between latency and bandwidth is how to tackle them. For latency, experts recommend that internet users build DIAs (dedicated internet lines) or use CDNs (content delivery networks) to reduce it. For bandwidth, there are several ways to tackle the issue. Internet users can change their ISP or change their internet plan.
